  • Fipronil with permethrin, topical (brand name Effitix®), is a medication used to treat and control fleas, ticks, and chewing lice in dogs and puppies 8 weeks of age and older and weighing more than 2.3 kg (5 lb). Fipronil with permethrin topical is also labeled for repelling biting flies and for repelling and killing mosquitoes. It may also be used as a treatment of sarcoptic mange in dogs.

  • Fipronil with s-methoprene and amitraz (brand name Certifect®) is a topical medication used to treat and control fleas, ticks, and chewing lice in dogs and puppies 8 weeks of age and older, weighing more than 2.3 kg (5 lb). It is also used to aid in the control of sarcoptic mange and mites in dogs and puppies 8 weeks of age and older, weighing more than 2.3 kg (5 lb).

  • Fipronil with s-methoprene and pyriproxyfen, topical (brand name Frontline® Gold), is a medication used to treat and control fleas and ticks in dogs and puppies 8 weeks of age and older, and to control fleas, ticks, and chewing lice in cats and kittens 8 weeks of age and older and weighing at least 1.36 kg (3 lb). It may be used to treat sarcoptic mange in dogs and cats, as well as chewing lice in dogs.

  • Fipronil with s-methoprene, topical (brand names Frontline® Plus, PetArmor® Pro Advanced, Fiproguard® Max, Fiprotrol® Plus, others), is a medication used to treat and control fleas, ticks, sarcoptic mange mites, and chewing lice in dogs and puppies 8 weeks of age and older, weighing more than 2.3 kg (5 lb). It is also used to treat and control fleas, ticks, and chewing lice in cats and kittens 8 weeks of age and older. It may be used off-label in other species.

  • Firocoxib is given by mouth in the form of a tablet to treat pain and inflammation in dogs and horses. It may also be used off label to treat a specific type of bladder cancer in dogs. Do not use this medication in pets that are allergic to it or in pets concurrently using corticosteroids or other NSAIDs. If a negative reaction occurs, call your veterinary office.

  • Florfenicol/terbinafine/betamethasone otic (brand name Osurnia®) is a long-acting, topical ear medication used to treat the itching and inflammation associated with certain bacterial ear infections in dogs. It is labeled for use in dogs and not intended for use in cats. Florfenicol/terbinafine/betamethasone otic should only be administered by a veterinary professional.

  • Florfenicol/ terbinafine/mometasone otic (brand names: Claro®, Simplera®) is a long-acting, topical ear medication used to treat the itching and inflammation associated with certain bacterial and/or ear infections in dogs. It is not intended for use in cats. This medication is usually given by veterinary personnel as a single dose.

  • Fluconazole is an antifungal medication used off label in cats, dogs, and small mammals to treat fungal infections, especially those in the brain and spinal cord. It is given by mouth in the form of a tablet or liquid suspension and is also available as an injection for hospital use. It should be used with caution in pets with liver or kidney disease, or pregnant or lactating pets.

  • Fludrocortisone acetate (brand names: Florinef®, Astonin®, Astonin H®, Florinefe®, Lonikan®) is used off-label to treat adrenal gland insufficiency or hypoadrenocorticism (Addison’s disease) in cats, dogs, and ferrets. It may also be used with other medications to treat hyperkalemia. Fludrocortisone acetate is given by mouth.

  • Fluocinolone + acetonide DMSO (brand name Synotic®) is applied topically and is labeled to treat ear inflammation in dogs. It is also used off-label to treat ear infections in cats. Give as directed. Side effects are rare but may include temporary hearing loss or skin reactions. Do not use on pets allergic to corticosteroids or DMSO, on pets with a ruptured ear drum or pets that are pregnant.
